Here you can find a small selection of web and internet based projects that I've designed and developed. The majority come from my 6 years working as Interactive Desginer at Real World Multimedia, the interactive department at Peter Gabriel's Real World.
The chosen sites reflect the diversity of the work I've created, both visually and technically. The sites range from e-commerce sites with turnover in the millions of pounds, to smaller scale microsites to support the realease of albums by artists at Real World. Technologies used include: X/HTML, CSS, Flash, PHP, Lasso, MySQL, Filemaker & QuickTime.
My main interests are in the area of what is often called 'Web 2.0', utilising advanced CSS and Javascript solutions coupled with backend server-side technologies to move beyond the traditional model of the page-based web.
WOMAD stands for World of Music Arts & Dance and is the leading world music festival organisation with events in every corner of the globe. WOMAD is also home to small record labe, WOMAD Select, as well as the charity WOMAD Foundation.
The redesign of the WOMAD site was one of the largest web projects I undertook during my time at Real World. The existing site was based on Filemaker Pro, which was dificult to manage and had poor performance. We based the new site on the same server as the other main Real World sites which meant building on top of MySQL and Lasso Pro 6. One of the most important requirements was the site should be updateable by the WOMAD staff from anywhere in the world, and incorporate the existing data which had been built up over a period of several years. Using the normal Real World frameset method the site is home to many different festivals, 1000's or artist records, news, line-ups, forums, galleries and a growing number of audio and video clips.
Some of the most advanced features are the QuickTime based Audio Video interactive browser authored with Livestage Pro, extensive use of ImageMagick to render dynamic graphical elements from the continually updated data, and a comprehensive inline editing system allowing the staff to navigate to any part of the site and add, edit and delete data from the same view as a normal visitor as opposed to constructing a seperate adminstration system.
