So Tell Me This Mr Brass…

March 2nd, 2004 at 1:04 am

It’s now approaching one week since I published my original investigation into Jaron Brass, and the interest in this story has been both gratifying and disturbing. Through the efforts of many people, some duped by jaron, some not, we’ve managed to accumulate a massive amount of information, and the story’s just been growing and growing.

Well things have moved on, both myself and the site have received messages from Jaron claiming that he is remorseful and stating a desire to apologise and explain his behavior. Now thus far I’m skeptical about how truthful Jaron will be prepared to be, but in thinking that I realised quite how much he’s going to have to cover to satisfy everyone. Still Jaron has promised to work on something throughout this week.

So in anticipation of this statement I thought it would useful for Jaron and for us to know exactly what it is that needs answering. Although there was much in common, lots of people were also told different tales, so what truths do you most want to know? what things must Jaron explain for you to feel satisfied?

Personally I’m particularly interested to hear an explanation about the Social Security Number irregularities, to find out how many people Jaron has duped over the last couple of years that he’s been doing this, and what he really hoped to gain from it all?

So what do you want to know most? What can Jaron say to begin to explain things to your satisfaction?

UPDATE!
Jaron has posted his apology and explanation online, it’s in PDF format and is quite lengthy.

http://www.jaronbrass.com/apology.pdf

To be quite honest I’m still digesting it, and I’m not yet sure what I think, and I’ve no idea whether it will be enough for everybody, although he clearly does apologise. One thing is for certain, if anyone manages to sniff out any verifiable lies in this document then there’ll be no way back for Jaron L. Brass.

I’d like to know if he’s really British.

  2. Jaron Brass Says:

Well Lee, it will be most interesting to see what people want to know from me. Whatever I can answer I will do my best to do so as comprehensively and expeditiously as possible.

As for the supposed social security number irregularities, the fact that someone went to the extent to even look at my number is something that doesn’t please me and therefore will go without explanation. It is none of your business nor anyone elses business and will stay that way. I don’t know if I can make that any more clear — but I can draw you a picture if I need to. Possibly a picture of a man standing behind bars in a pinstripe suit, in handcuffs with the words “my private information stays private and it is against the law to post an individuals private information without their consent you twat” across the bottom. You think it is perfectly OK. However, when Mastercard was attacked by hackers last year and the cardholder/SSN information for thousands of inviduals was stolen the FBI didn’t find it OK. There’s a reason that information is privileged and confidential. And you sir were certainly not privileged to have it — nor are you privileged to maintain it on your computer.

I’m not a toy that you can just pull out and then discard. I can’t make it any more clearer than that.

I will be happy to answer anything — however — I will not dig into my personal life or respond to the allegations your “contributors” have made without seeing concrete evidence. Since you can’t prove anything to me, neither will I to you.

Two trains, A and B, leave their respective starting points at the same time and travel in opposite directions. They travel at constant speeds, and pass at point M. One travels at twice the speed of the other. If one of the trains leaves five minutes late they pass at a point 2 miles from point M.

What is the speed of the slow train, in miles per hour?

  5. Anonymous Says:

    My only question:

Does Jaron have such a sad, lonely life that he feels some sort of a need to create these fantastic worlds of his, duping people all along? Or is there some other reason? Perhaps mental illness is to blame–borderline personality disorder, narcissism, mild schizophrenia, or just good old dementia could be to blame. Regardless, I want to know why in the hell Jaron feels the need to lie, lie, and then lie some more.

  6. Jaron Brass Says:
    • The answer: 36 miles per hour.

    • The solution: Since both trains are constantly moving they will always meet at a point 1/3 of the way between their two respective positions. The initial position for the slow train is 0 and the initial position of the faster train is 3x. Had they both left on time they would meet at point x. You can say that in 5 minutes the slow train can travel u units of distance and the fast train can cover 2u units. (The measure of distance is irrelevant.)

The slow train leaves late. At the moment the slow train leaves the faster train will be at point 3x-2u. The point they meet will be 1/3 of the way between 0 and 3x-2u = (3x-2u)/3 = x-2u/3. The distance from this point to x is 2 miles. In other words x-(x-2u/3)=2 –> 2u/3=2 –> u=3.

Use the d=rt formula (distance=rate x time) to solve the equation. The distance is 1 unit, or 3 miles. The time is 5 minutes, or 1/12 of an hour. The final equation is 3=r*(1/12). Solve for r and you get 36 miles per hour.

    Easy.

    Jaron,

this blog is not the opportunity for your right to reply. It is for the victims of your lies to share experiences and figure out what they most want to know about the truth behind the lies.

Every-time I make a concession or move to curb the extremes of the movement against you deceit you seem to pop back more self-righteous than before There’s still a lot of angry people out there, and you’d be wise to now show as much humility as is possible. An apology and explanation will go someway to repairing the damage, but be careful not to be complacent.

  8. Jaron Brass Says:

    Apology now online…

  9. Microsoft Employee Says:

Jaron: You ended up “finding a position with Microsoft.” But later it fell through. Did you have an offer letter? Did they know you didn’t have a college degree (and barely any college coursework)? Perhaps they didn’t and retracted their offer? It all sounds rather suspect; I’m not sure if your “apology” is any truer than anything else you’ve said. Much of it casts more doubt. You’d have been better off simply saying you’re sorry, that you’ve learned a lesson, and left it at that.

  10. Afonso Says:

    Hey Jaron…

“Nice” to see you again ;) In case you wonder why I haven’t spoken to you for ages now, this is the cause of it. I got fed up of all your allegations last at around Xmas time when you started going on about your relationship with Will, your cruise trip at Queen Elizabeth, etc etc…

Anyway, I read your apology. And to be honest, I could care less if you feel sorry for what you did.

I do wish you all the best in finding a good therapy for your issues. It will be tough, but I am sure you can go trough it as many thousands others do on a daily basis.

We all learned a lesson here. For me, something like this hasn’t happened since I was around 14 and some people on IRC did the same thing. So it reminded me how the internet is a fucked up world.

    Lee,
I am still waiting for that dinner/coffee to offer you. Whenever you’re free and wanna chill out a bit, let me know. It would be cool to talk to you about this and many other things in person.

    :) Thanks!
    Afonso

  11. Jaron Brass Says:

    Microsoft Employee (if you are),

That was a fairly significant moment in my life. Property records in Bellevue, Washinton will I’m sure show that I was living at that property on Village Park Drive SE. The position I was considered for (well, not considered for) was nothing glamorous. It was as an administrative assistant. I was interviewed (and even their PAs make a lot of money) and made an offer.

My college degree did have something to do with my ultimate fate. They were not aware (until further background/reference checks) that I hadn’t completed college. It was not something I hid from them, just something that got overlooked.

If you don’t believe the apology you’re one of the only ones who has come forward. I thought by putting my life in perspective would help answer everyone’s questions.

  12. Anonymous Says:

I have been following this for over a week now, as the website he copied is one belonging to a friend of mine….I also just read Jaron’s “apology”, which is nothing more than a pity me letter that really doesn’t apologize for anything, and brings up yet more discrepencies and just perpetuates his “web” of lies…..trying to overdose on Synthroid?? Sorry, can’t be done. And what doctor prescribed Lexapro and Clonazepam?? I called my doctor this morning and she advised these two drugs together are an unwise decision for the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders. Furthermore, if you are on the correct dosage of Synthroid, your weight “issues” should have been corrected by now. I also suffer from hypothyroidism and depression and with the correct dosages of medications and proper diet and exercise, I am just fine. I did not go out and steal other people’s identity, lie outright online, get my “mother” involved as a lawyer, and just in general be a pain in the ass for everyone who has has the misfortune to be sucked into your life. Just fess up, Jaron, and admit you screwed up, you lied through your teeth, and then just disappear. This continuing dialogue trying to justify your actions and insist that you were truthful on some matters is just ridiculous. Live your own life. If it’s not everything you want it to be, you and you alone have the power to change it. Go back to school, get some money (it’s called real work, and some of us have to do it), move out of your parent’s home, get your fat ass off your computer chair, exercise and stop cramming the Ding Dongs down your throat to lose weight, (drugs won’t do it alone, you know, I’m sure your “doctor” may have mentioned that), don’t blame anyone else but yourself if your life isn’t as glamourous or exciting as you want it to be. Stop blaming everyone, and take responsibility for yourself: You are not 7 years old (or maybe you are, who knows anymore?)

  13. Josh Says:

Surely everyone will excuse your past wrong-doings and deceptions based on the simple fact that you had a troubled adolescence and suffer from depression. Why, those bits might even be reason to excuse future lies, too! No need to stop now while you’re on a roll, right?

  14. Anonymous Says:

oh yes, you’re such a victim jaron. just dissappear back into your meaningless existence and stop trying to be some superstar.

  15. Appleman Says:

Hours of my life wasted on the phone with a psycho… Exams not studied for, classwork put aside, etc, etc. I can’t believe I let myself fall victim to this.

  16. Lee Parry Says:

Hey, don’t beat yourself up over it, he did it to lots of people. The blame lies with him, not anyone who was kind enough to be open and friendly.

I think the worst thing would be if this led anyone to be less trusting or open. I mean sure, I guess we learn to be less naive, but take heart that you’re not alone in your frustration.

  17. redmonkey Says:

    ONE MORE TIME…

I have one tiny detail that still bothers me. Your friend in Seattle is named Eric as is my friend (who is still very much alive). Why did you post the picture of my friend and put your deceased friends name below it on your Website around the time of the accident?

Why not post a photo of the real person?
Wouldn’t friends and family have recognized this photo was a fake when you posted it?

PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME… AS IT’S THE MAIN REASON I CHOSE TO BREAK OFF ANY COMMUNICATION WITH YOU.

  18. dvboy Says:

And to think I’d put my experience of Jaron behind me and long forgotten about him nearly a year ago.

So, I guess I can safely say he’s younger than he said he was, he never has lived round the corner from BBC TV Centre, he’s never worked there, he’s never applied for a job at Sky, he never went on a cruise for Christmas 2003, he never broke his back and spent months in hospital, he never dated Simon from Blue Peter… bla bla bla

  19. anonymous Says:

Jaron’s arrogance (post-apology) is quite frankly pissing me off. Where is the apology? That pdf didn’t speak to me at all. It read like an A&E biography trying to muster up some pity for a failed con-artist.

I wouldn’t trust Jaron as far as I could throw him, nor should anyone. You’d be setting yourself up for a huge disappointment.

  20. Anonymous Says:

it is nice to know that he waisted more time in my life anyone who believes this hogwash is a fool and would be an idiot to go back to mr brass. if anyone else get hurt by him since he is lying again it is at their own peril.

  21. Jaron Brass Says:

My arrogance is due to the fact that regardless of what I do people will not believe me. I’ve offered an incredibly detailed accounting of my life that covers every base possible but that still isn’t enough. Admitting the fact that I’m adopted to an audience of strangers is not something I was too comfortable with, either.

My apology was from the heart and from the heart alone. It was honest and as close to the point as I could possibly make it be. I’ve lied to many people - about many different things. I felt the best was to explain everything was to start from the beginning.

Sometimes I wonder if I should’ve let things be. If the time and effort that went into it are not appreciated it makes me feel that I’ve wasted my time — and that is something I don’t like doing.

  22. Ben Says:

I can’t really say that I believe much of his appology, maybe it’s because I was juped by his lies once before, but then again somebody in another country telling lies isn’t going to effect me much, just piss me off really (and even that is mostly down to the fact for a little while I let myself get taken in by it).

I just find the whole thing entertaining, but I get the feeling that half of his appology is going for the sympathy vote, even if it is true (and it quite possibly is) could it be too little too late? As most people have said Jaron seems like a nice enough guy without the lies and with a lifestory that interesting, even if not the best, he don’t need them lies.

  23. Ben Says:

Just to add a note to what Jaron has said above me, if you don’t like wasting your time then why did u spend the last two or more years in all the places you did telling all the lies you did?

  24. Jaron Brass Says:

And, in addition to all the shit and problems this blog entry has caused me, I now have this to deal with:

    http://www.jaronbrass.com/arrest.mov

Yep… My father and his business partner, the top story of NBC 6 News tonight. They’ve been arrested and my family torn apart. At first, my family immediately thought there was a connection to this web site. There wasn’t. And the allegations against my father totally false. It’s eerily coincidental and frankly could easily pass as one of my tall tales. But — there’s the proof. The 6 O’Clock News tonight…

Not only will this most likely have devastating consequences to my father’s practice, but most certainly the legal fees and the frozen accounts will not help either. My mum spoke to me earlier and said they may have to sell their home to pay for the legal fees. Certainly not something I’m particularly overwrought with joy about.

I will not be online over the next few days as I help my mum and sister through this. Since the story aired tonight at 6pm the three of us have received over 70 phone calls on our respective numbers. My sister is already being teased by friends at school. My mum hasn’t stopped crying. And me — well — it’s not as if I didn’t have a handful of issues to sort through already.

You can choose to accept my apology as is or you can shrug it off. The choice is up to the individual reading it. I will not be amending it nor changing it, and I will not be addressing future issues posted here. If you have a question, concern or doubt you can e-mail me and I hope I can resolve it.

I’ve stated what need to be said, and now I need to work to put not only my life back together, but help my parents and sister with their’s as well. I’m not seeking sympathy, just understanding in this now (even more) difficult time for me.

    -Jaron

Just an observation, but if you freeze the player on the TiVo page just before the recording begins, and look at the date, it states that this recording was made in 1999. Maybe something is set wrong somewhere, but that strikes me as odd.

  26. Anonymous Says:

My mistake. I confirmed with NBC6.net that this was in fact a story tonight. But somebody needs to set the calendar on his TiVo!

  27. anonymous Says:

Girl, you’ve got so much damned drama. Apparently you are just a small slice of drama in a very messed up family.

dude, you’re a lot of work.

  28. wtf Says:

who popped your dad in the eye?

is the same office where hyperactive is located?

    insurance fraud? coincidence or karma?

  29. Jaron Brass Says:

I noticed the “1999″ bit and thought it was kind of funny. But if you look at the first “Now Playing List” page and the second page, you can see the recording date was 3/2 which was yesterday. In don’t know why it says 1999 but it’s probably something screwy with either TiVo’s guide or DirecTV’s programming guide. I probably should reconnect the phone line to the receiver as well and do an update. I haven’t in about a month now.

quote “Girl, you’ve got so much damned drama. Apparently you are just a small slice of drama in a very messed up family.

dude, you’re a lot of work.”

All I can say is that was very rude and totally uncalled for. And I loathe drama just as much as any other queen. (Based on your comment, I’d take it you are incredibly feminine. I’ve never been called “girl” by a “butch” or straight-acting gay male before.) I hope your dad gets thrown in jail someday, too, buddy.

I somehow get the feeling from your post that you’re saying I’m the cause of all this drama for my family. Well, I’m not. And I find your comment completely offencive.

  30. Jaron Brass Says:

quote “who popped your dad in the eye?

is the same office where hyperactive is located?

    insurance fraud? coincidence or karma?”

    • He had cataract surgery last Thursday. He wasn’t popped in the eye. He’s wearing an eye protector, not a bandage.

    • No, different office.

    • None of the listed. I’ll just say you’re an idiot. And for the record, no one has ever accused me of insurance fraud. I’m not a doctor.

  31. Anonymous Says:

Odd - no sign of this story on NBC 6’s website - www.nbc6.net However the previous health insurance fraud story referred to does seem to be on-line.

The address of the clinic on the doors matches listings for C Brass (and I think Howard must be a middle name - CH Brass pops up a few times) Craig Howard Brass would make sense as his name?

Hallandale (where the reporter says Brass is from) is just North of Aventura, where Jaron’s websites are mainly registered to.

The Tivo (1999) in brackets doesn’t refer to the recording date - it is a date provided by the broadcaster as part of the programme details for the origination date I think. In this case it is probably spurious as it doesn’t look like NBC6 are providing full EPG details to DirecTV. (Not a surprise for a local broadcaster that probably doesn’t have as much EPG savvy as people like Sky and the BBC in the UK)

All I can say is - it looks to be what it is. Of course the dates may have been edited in some editing package, and until it pops up on an on-line source like a newspaper or TV News site there will always be nagging doubts.

However this does seem like a very sad co-incidence.

  32. anonymous Says:

You may have never been called, “Girl” before Jaron, but I must agree “YOU are a lot of work” and for being such a mastermind of deception, you sure are easily played into and react to the slightest snap. Oh well, all in all you are still just as amusing as you were when you were dream up those fabulous lies!

Wounded Jaron is certainly not much different than Fabulous Jaron.

  33. Jaron Brass Says:

I don’t know why NBC6.net hasn’t posted the article after they billed as being their “Top Story”… but the Miami Herald posted this today:

    http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/local/8095684.htm

Read the very bottom of the article. I came across it in the Miami-Dade print edition of the paper in the “Neighbors” section today.

And to those online I apologise for snapping. I had nothing to do with his arrest and it is a difficult time.

    -Jaron

  34. Anonymous Says:

NBC6 have confirmed via e-mail that the report on the Singer/Brass clinic was their top story yesterday. I think we can assume that the video, more than anything else posted, is authentic.

The “Howard Brass of Allandale” is very likely to be one and the same as the Craig Brass who is linked to Jaron. Googling Craig Brass links him to the same address as the Singer/Brass clinic featured in the video report.

All a very sad co-incidence? Whatever the case I guess however many problems Jaron had - he now has more.

(That said there are still inconsistencies in his online apology - which is less an apology, more an excuse or justification. Jaron was using the “dead long-term boyfriend” story in early 2003 - long before his recent apology implies.)

  35. the stories Says:

From the people I have spoken to, it appears the dead boyfriend story or the business got sold story would appear after communicating with someone (either on iChat, email or the phone) for about a month.

From the number of people I have emailed or chatted with, it appears that he has had at least four friends or ex-boyfriends die since late 2002. In addition Hyperactive has been either sold by Jaron to employees or bought out by larger media companies/huge corporations three times since 2003.

It would make sense when someone spins as many lies as this guy, that he would use some life changing or traumatic experience to allow him to back away from the lies.

My current thinking is that Jaron lies to gain self respect. By fooling people, he ultimately feels empowered because they are foolish enough to believe his extraordinary tales.

Sadly, his immaturity is setting a darker course for his future life. It will be close to impossible to break from these lies with all of this attention he is receiving on this website. Life after all of this will seem incredibly bleak and his need to recreate his persona will be stronger and possibly more risky.

This behavior is all about risk and the thrill from it.

Jaron’s story is far from over…
